Comparison

Best Firestore GUI clients in 2026: compared

The right Firestore GUI depends on your platform, budget and which Firebase services you manage. The Firebase Console is the official baseline with no separate fee, Firestudio is the actively maintained free, open-source desktop option, Firestruct is a native Mac app, and FireCMS suits teams that need a CMS for editors. Fuego, which we make, covers Firestore, Auth and Storage on macOS, Windows and Linux with PITR, pipeline queries, index management and bulk jobs, but it is closed source, and PITR and bulk jobs need a paid plan.

Disclosure: We make Fuego, so weigh our view accordingly — every claim about other tools links to its source.

Last updated: . "Not documented" means we could not find the feature in the tool's public documentation, not that it is missing.

Prices and features were checked in October 2026 against each vendor's own pages and repositories; the sources are linked in each tool's section and listed in full at the end of the page. Prices are shown in the currency each vendor uses. "Not documented" means we could not find the feature in public documentation, not that it is missing. Two costs apply whichever tool you use: reads and writes count toward your Firestore usage, and Cloud Storage for Firebase needs the Blaze plan.

Criteria

How to choose a Firestore GUI

Start from the constraint you cannot change, such as your operating system, your budget or the Firebase services you manage, then compare the tools that are left.

Budget and open source

  • No fee for the tool: the Firebase Console. In every tool here, the console included, reads and writes count toward your Firestore usage.
  • Free and open source: Firestudio (MIT), Refi App (MIT), Rowy (Apache 2.0) and the FireCMS Community edition (MIT core).
  • Free tier of a paid app: Fuego (one project; no import, bulk operations, emulators or PITR) and Firestruct (read-only).
  • Trial, then subscription: Firefoo from $9/month and Firelize from $9/month billed annually. Firestruct and Fuego also sell a one-time lifetime license.

Desktop or web

  • Desktop on macOS, Windows and Linux: Fuego, Firefoo, Firestudio, Firelize and Refi App.
  • macOS only: Firestruct, a native Mac App Store app for macOS 14.4 or later.
  • In the browser: the Firebase Console, Rowy and FireCMS; Rowy and FireCMS can also be self-hosted.
  • Firefoo, Firestudio and Refi App are built on Electron; Fuego uses the operating system's webview through Wails; Firelize does not say.

Auth users and Storage files

Enterprise edition, pipelines and newer features

  • Pipeline queries: the Firebase console has a Query Editor with Query Explain for Enterprise databases, and Fuego has a visual pipeline builder. No other tool here documents pipeline support.
  • Named databases: Firebase Console, Fuego, Firestudio, Firelize, Firestruct and FireCMS.
  • Indexes: the Firebase Console and Fuego create and manage them; Firestruct's Index Advisor checks a local index file; Firefoo, Firelize and FireCMS link to the Firebase Console.
  • Vector search: the Google Cloud console creates vector indexes, and Fuego also runs findNearest queries and generates embeddings.

Team use

  • Firebase Console: access through Firebase and Google Cloud IAM roles.
  • Rowy and FireCMS: role-based permissions for non-technical editors (table and field level in Rowy, per collection in FireCMS).
  • Fuego Team plan: manage sublicenses from the app, turn features on or off per sublicense, and sync settings through your own Firebase project.
  • Firefoo and Firelize: team or volume licensing, with no shared workspaces documented.

Where your credentials live

  • On your computer: Fuego, Firefoo, Firestudio, Firelize, Firestruct and Refi App keep credentials locally, according to their vendors or source code. Firelize encrypts service account keys with the macOS Keychain or Windows DPAPI.
  • In Google's console: you sign in with a Google account, and IAM decides what you can do.
  • Web tools: Rowy deploys its backend into your own GCP project; FireCMS Cloud holds an encrypted service account for your project, and self-hosted FireCMS sends a license check to api.firecms.co (only a Community app without PRO plugins can turn it off).

Is it still maintained?

  • Released in the last few weeks: Firestruct 1.2 (October 2, 2026), FireCMS 3.5.1 (September 30), Fuego 2.2.0 (September 29) and Firestudio v2.3.0 (September 23). Google's Firestore release notes run through September 2026.
  • Last release about a year ago: Firelize v1.1.0 (October 16, 2025).
  • No release for years: Rowy v3.0.0 (October 2023), Firefoo 1.5.11 (January 2023) and Refi App v0.0.19 (September 2022).

Our app · Desktop client

Fuego

A proprietary desktop app for Firestore, Firebase Authentication and Cloud Storage on macOS, Windows and Linux. It is built with Go and Wails and draws its interface with the operating system's own webview. The same binary also works as a fuego command-line tool, and the app includes a bring-your-own-key AI assistant and an MCP server.

This is the app we make. Its claims link to our own docs and pricing, and the limitations below are the ones we know about.

Credentials and data
Stored on your computer. Firestore, Auth and Storage traffic goes straight to Google through the official Admin SDKs; our servers are contacted for licensing and update checks, and the privacy policy also covers anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, with an opt-out. Google sign-in tokens are encrypted with a machine-bound key, and so are AI provider keys unless you turn that option off; an imported service-account JSON is stored in the local database without that extra layer. faq privacy-policy docs/vector-search-firestore

Strengths

Limitations

  • Closed source; the terms forbid reverse engineering and derivative works. open-source terms-conditions
  • Desktop only: there is no web version and nothing a team can self-host. download
  • The Free plan covers one project. Emulators, import, batch operations, realtime listeners, PITR, vector search, collection-group and cursor queries, multi-tenant Auth and the MCP server need a paid plan. pricing docs/command-line
  • A license can be installed on several devices but runs on one at a time; the Lifetime Deal is limited to 2 registered devices and to individuals. terms-conditions pricing
  • Linux builds are x64 only and need WebKit2-GTK 4.1. Windows downloads are not yet code-signed, so expect SmartScreen warnings. download docs/fuego-app
  • Storage and dashboards/custom views are labelled beta. pricing
  • No SQL or free-form JavaScript query console: queries are visual or JSON, and JavaScript is only used for transform scripts. docs/query
  • The AI assistant needs your own provider API key, and data goes to that provider unless you use a local Ollama model. docs/ai-assistant

Best for

Firebase developers and small teams who want a desktop app for Firestore, Auth and Storage that keeps credentials on their own machine: regular data migrations, bulk edits, import and export, PITR recovery and index work, Firestore Enterprise pipelines or vector search, and AI/MCP access or a scriptable CLI without handing credentials to a hosted service. Bulk jobs, PITR, emulators and MCP need a paid plan. If you need open source, a browser-based tool or Linux on ARM, look at the other options.

Switching from Firefoo? See our Fuego vs Firefoo page.

Strengths

  • Table, Tree and JSON views with inline editing, column customization, Split View and Geopoint maps. firefoo.com
  • Two ways to query: a visual GUI with an extra starts-with operator, and a local JavaScript editor that uses the Node.js Firebase Admin SDK. firefoo.com firefoo.com (2)
  • JSON, JSONL and CSV import and export, compressed-archive backups, and transfers between projects and to the emulator. firefoo.com firefoo.com (2) firefoo.com (3) firefoo.com (4)
  • An Auth admin panel with custom claims, bulk disable and delete, and CSV/JSON user import and export. firefoo.com
  • Local-only design: no custom backend, credentials stay on the machine, and the vendor says license checks send no data. firefoo.com

Limitations

  • The last documented release is 1.5.11 from January 25, 2023; neither the vendor's release notes nor its GitHub releases repo list a newer one. firefoo.com github.com
  • Covers Firestore and Firebase Authentication only; Cloud Storage support is not documented. firefoo.com
  • Named databases, PITR, Enterprise pipelines, vector search, AI and MCP are not documented, and index creation sends you to the Firebase Console. firefoo.com
  • Subscription only, with no free plan. The emulator works only after you connect the real Firebase project. firefoo.com firefoo.com (2)

Best for

Individual developers and small teams on Standard-edition Firestore who want a local desktop client for CSV/JSON import and export, cross-project transfers, Auth user administration and Node.js scripting, and who are fine with a tool whose last release was in January 2023.

Open-source desktop client

Windows (x64), macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Linux (.deb, .tar.gz, AppImage; firestudio-bin on the AUR). No web version. github.com github.com (2)
License
MIT, with the source on GitHub. github.com
Pricing
Free, with no paid plans and no account required. firestudio.flowdesk.tech
Latest release
v2.3.0 on September 23, 2026; 13 releases from v1.6.0 (February 26, 2026) to v2.3.0. github.com

Local, according to the privacy policy. You connect with a service account JSON file or Google OAuth; the app talks directly to Firebase and Google and checks GitHub Releases for updates. firestudio.flowdesk.tech github.com

Website: firestudio.flowdesk.tech

Strengths

Limitations

  • The macOS build is not signed with an Apple Developer certificate, so macOS shows a security warning on first launch. github.com
  • Import and export are documented for JSON only. A Rename Collection action moves a collection's top-level documents to a new path in the same project (non-recursive, up to 10,000 documents in v2.3.0); copying between projects is not documented. firestudio.flowdesk.tech github.com github.com (2)
  • PITR, index management, vector search, Enterprise pipeline queries, an AI assistant or MCP server, and team features are not documented. github.com
  • The privacy policy says OAuth tokens are kept in the device's secure storage, but the v2.3.0 source saves the Google sign-in refresh token in the app's localStorage. firestudio.flowdesk.tech github.com

Best for

Developers who want a free, open-source, cross-platform GUI for everyday Firestore, Storage and Auth work, and who are fine with JSON-only import and export and an unsigned macOS build.

The app contacts its license server and needs internet access at startup. firelize.com firelize.com (2) firelize.com (3)

Website: firelize.com

Strengths

  • Export, import and transfer jobs within and across projects and between remote and emulator databases, with query filters, recursive export, recursive delete jobs and drag and drop across windows. firelize.com firelize.com (2)
  • Per-document point-in-time recovery to any minute in the last 7 days, with the current and recovered versions side by side. firelize.com
  • A TypeScript Script Editor that runs against the Firestore and Auth Admin SDKs. firelize.com
  • Detects named databases and local Firestore and Auth emulators automatically, and manages Auth users (search, edit, add, delete). firelize.com firelize.com (2) firelize.com (3) firelize.com (4)
  • According to the vendor, it runs locally, encrypts credentials with operating-system facilities and has no telemetry. firelize.com

Limitations

Best for

Individual developers willing to pay for a local-first desktop client focused on Firestore and Auth, who mainly move data between projects and the emulator, script in TypeScript and recover documents with PITR, and who do not need Cloud Storage or a table view.

Limitations

  • macOS only (14.4 or later); no Windows, Linux or web version is documented. apps.apple.com
  • Free mode is read-only: writes, imports, exports, uploads and scripts need Pro. firestruct.com firestruct.com (2)
  • The vendor describes several write workflows as "emulator-proven", and Storage production controls stay guarded until live verification is complete. firestruct.com firestruct.com (2)
  • PITR is still in development or behind a feature flag, and Index Advisor does not create or deploy indexes. Import/export file formats, AI, vector search and pipeline queries are not documented. firestruct.com

Best for

Mac-based Firebase developers and support teams who want Firestore, Auth and Storage in one native app with JavaScript scripting, production safeguards and multi-tenant Auth support, and who are happy to buy through the Mac App Store (subscription or lifetime).

License
Apache 2.0. The repository now lives at github.com/buildship-ai/rowy. github.com github.com (2)
Pricing
Base $0 (1 project, export up to 10K rows). Pro $12 per seat/month, with a one-month free trial. Business: custom pricing. Google Cloud usage is billed separately on your own project, and Rowy Run requires the Blaze plan. rowy.io docs.rowy.io
Latest release
v3.0.0 on October 27, 2023; the last commit on main is from November 23, 2024. github.com github.com (2)
Credentials and data
Data stays in your Firebase project, and Rowy Run runs only in your GCP project. Guided setup asks for Google Cloud access through Google sign-in, and the Rowy Run backend uses telemetry for bug tracking. docs.rowy.io docs.rowy.io (2) docs.rowy.io (3)

Website: rowy.io

Strengths

  • Open source under Apache 2.0, with a self-hostable frontend. github.com docs.rowy.io
  • Spreadsheet-style editing over existing collections with 30+ field types, multiple views and column controls, usable by non-developers. github.com
  • A low-code backend: derivative and action fields, extensions and webhooks deploy Cloud Functions to your project. rowy.io github.com
  • Data and backend services stay in your own Firebase and GCP project. docs.rowy.io
  • A free Base plan, and role-based access with table-level and field-level permissions. rowy.io docs.rowy.io

Limitations

  • No release since v3.0.0 (October 2023) and no commit on main since November 2024; the repository moved to the BuildShip organization. github.com github.com (2)
  • Firestore only. Its Auth features manage users of Rowy itself, not your app's users; a Storage browser and emulator support are not documented (file fields upload to Storage, and emulator scripts exist only for contributors). docs.rowy.io docs.rowy.io (2) github.com
  • Several Pro and Business items on the pricing page, such as data version control, automated backups and advanced filtering, are marked as under development. rowy.io
  • The documented way to bulk-update is re-importing a CSV, which blanks any column you leave out. docs.rowy.io

Best for

Teams that want a collaborative, Airtable-like CMS on Firestore with low-code Cloud Functions in their own GCP project, and that accept a product with little recent maintenance.

Open-core web CMS

FireCMS

An open-core headless CMS and admin-panel framework for Firebase and Firestore, built with React. You can self-host it (MIT core plus paid PRO plugins) or use the managed FireCMS Cloud.

At a glance

Platforms
Browser, either hosted by FireCMS or on your own static hosting. No desktop app is documented. firecms.co
License
Open core: MIT core, PRO plugins source-available under the Business Source License 1.1. firecms.co github.com
Pricing
Community: free, self-hosted. Cloud: €9.99 per user/month after a 1-month trial. Self-Hosted PRO: free on localhost and for 30 days in production, then €99/month for the first project and €49/month for each additional one, plus VAT; dev and staging projects count. firecms.co firecms.co (2)
Latest release
3.5.1 on September 30, 2026. firecms.co
Credentials and data
Data stays in your Firebase project. Self-hosted apps send an access-log and license check (project ID, user uid and email) to api.firecms.co; only a Community app (no license key, no PRO plugin) can turn it off, with telemetry={false}. FireCMS Cloud holds a service account for your project, encrypted with Cloud KMS. firecms.co firecms.co (2)

Website: firecms.co

Strengths

  • An MIT-licensed core you can self-host and extend with React: custom fields, views, entity actions and save/delete callbacks. firecms.co
  • Built for content teams: a spreadsheet table with inline editing, Cards and Kanban views, typed forms, references and subcollections. firecms.co firecms.co (2)
  • Role-based permissions per collection and entity history, with a managed Cloud option. firecms.co firecms.co (2)
  • An MCP server (hosted, or local with npx @firecms/mcp-server) and in-app AI, including DataTalk natural-language queries. firecms.co firecms.co (2)
  • Supports secondary (named) Firestore databases, and ships often: 3.4.0, 3.5.0 and 3.5.1 between August 26 and September 30, 2026. firecms.co firecms.co (2)

Limitations

  • Import (CSV, JSON, Excel), the schema editor, user and role management, entity history and AI need PRO or Cloud. PRO is billed per Firebase project, including dev and staging. firecms.co firecms.co (2)
  • Primarily a CMS; FireCMS Cloud also includes a Firestore Explorer (recursive collection tree, schema-less document views, PITR panel) since 3.3.0. Managing Firebase Auth accounts, browsing Storage buckets, index management, pipeline or vector queries and a code query console are not documented. firecms.co firecms.co (2) firecms.co (3) firecms.co (4)
  • No built-in emulator switch; the docs describe a code hook (onFirebaseInit) for it. firecms.co
  • Self-hosting means building and deploying a React app. Apps with PRO plugins or a license key always send a license check (user email, uid, project ID) to api.firecms.co; a Community app can turn it off with telemetry={false}. Cloud is billed per user. firecms.co firecms.co (2)

Best for

Teams that want a branded, permission-controlled back office or CMS on Firestore for non-technical editors, and React developers or agencies who want to extend it with custom code.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free Firestore GUI?

It depends on what you need. The Firebase Console has no separate fee: you pay only for Firestore usage, and the Spark plan is no-cost. Firestudio is a free, MIT-licensed desktop app for Firestore, Cloud Storage and Firebase Auth with releases through September 2026. Refi App is also free and MIT-licensed, but it has had no release since September 2022. Fuego has a Free plan for one project without import, bulk operations, emulators or PITR, Firestruct has a free read-only mode on macOS, Rowy has a free Base plan, and the FireCMS Community edition is free to self-host.

Is there an open-source Firestore GUI?

Yes. Firestudio (MIT) and Refi App (MIT) are desktop apps; Refi App's last release was in September 2022. Rowy (Apache 2.0) is a web app whose last release was in October 2023. FireCMS is open core: an MIT-licensed core with PRO plugins under the Business Source License 1.1. The Firebase Console, Firefoo, Firelize, Firestruct and Fuego are not open source.

Can I manage Firestore without the Firebase console?

For most day-to-day work, yes. Desktop clients such as Fuego, Firefoo, Firestudio, Firelize, Firestruct and Refi App connect to your project with a Google sign-in or a service account key, depending on the tool, and Rowy and FireCMS run in the browser against your own project. Some tasks may still send you to Google's consoles: Firefoo, Firelize and FireCMS link to the Firebase Console to create missing indexes, and Fuego and Firelize both need PITR to be enabled on the database in Google Cloud first.

Which Firestore GUI works on Linux?

Fuego (x64), Firefoo, Firestudio, Firelize (64-bit .deb and .rpm) and Refi App (.deb) have Linux builds. The Firebase Console, Rowy and FireCMS run in the browser, so they work on Linux too. Firestruct is macOS only. Firefoo and Refi App have not had a release since January 2023 and September 2022.

Which Firestore GUI tools work with the Firebase Emulator Suite?

Firestudio, Firelize (Firestore and Auth emulators), Firestruct (Firestore, Auth and Storage emulators), Firefoo and Fuego connect to local emulators. In Fuego this needs a paid plan, and Firefoo requires connecting the real Firebase project first. Refi App supports the Firestore emulator only. The hosted Firebase Console does not document an emulator connection; Google provides a separate Emulator Suite UI instead. FireCMS documents a code hook for it, and in Rowy it appears only in contributor scripts.

Which Firestore GUI supports point-in-time recovery (PITR)?

In the Google Cloud console you can enable PITR, clone a database at a past timestamp and export from a PITR timestamp, but reading past versions is documented only through client libraries and REST. Fuego lets you browse a document's history, compare versions, query at a past read time and restore documents in bulk on paid plans. Firelize recovers a single document to any minute in the last 7 days. The FireCMS changelog mentions PITR history in FireCMS Cloud's Firestore Explorer, Firestruct lists PITR as still in development, and PITR is not documented for the other tools.
