Fuego: a Firefoo alternative for Firestore, Auth and Storage

Fuego and Firefoo are both desktop clients for Firestore and Firebase Authentication. Fuego also browses Cloud Storage and manages indexes, and supports Firestore features that arrived after Firefoo's last release (1.5.11, January 2023), such as Enterprise pipeline queries, named databases and point-in-time recovery. Fuego 2.2.0 shipped on September 29, 2026.

Key differences

How Fuego differs from Firefoo

Each Fuego feature links to our docs, and each Firefoo fact links to the page it comes from. Where Firefoo documents part of a feature too, the item says so.

What Fuego offers

  • Desktop app on the system webview: built with Go and Wails, with the interface in the operating system's webview rather than a bundled Chromium (Firefoo's makers describe it as an Electron app). For macOS, Windows (x64 and ARM64) and Linux (x64). open-source download producthunt.com
  • Query builder: OR conditions, between, cursors, field selection, a live match count, a JSON editor with schema validation, and SDK code generation in 10 languages. Firefoo's query GUI also has a starts-with operator, and Firefoo supports collection groups. docs/query firefoo.com firefoo.com (2)
  • Pipeline queries (from 2.0): a visual, stage-by-stage builder for Firestore Enterprise databases, with Explain and code generation. docs/pipeline-queries docs/query
  • Index management and Index Advisor: create, edit, compare and sync composite and vector indexes, single-field exemptions and TTL policies, with an Index Advisor (from 2.0) that works out the index a query needs. docs/firestore-index-management docs/index-advisor
  • Point-in-time recovery (paid plans): browse a document's history, compare versions, query at a past read time and restore documents in bulk within Firestore's PITR window, also on the emulator since 2.2. docs/pitr changelog
  • Named databases: switch between the (default) and named Firestore databases of a project, create Standard or Enterprise databases (from 2.1), and compare their indexes. changelog docs/firestore-index-management
  • Cloud Storage browser (beta): browse buckets, preview images, video and PDFs, edit metadata, upload and download, and move or copy files between folders and buckets. docs/firebase-storage
  • Bulk jobs: Firefoo also renames, copies and bulk-deletes data, transfers it between projects, and runs bulk changes you write as JavaScript scripts. On paid plans Fuego adds built-in bulk updates with type conversion, increment and min/max that need no code, and moves collections to another database as well as another project. Long imports and exports run in the background, where you can pause and resume them. docs/update-docs docs/move-collection docs/windows-and-links firefoo.com firefoo.com (2) firefoo.com (3) firefoo.com (4)
  • Firebase Auth: like Firefoo, Fuego edits custom claims and imports and exports users. Fuego also searches users by provider, manages phone MFA factors and, on paid plans, Identity Platform tenants. docs/authentication docs/import-export-users firefoo.com
  • Global search: one search across all your projects for collection names, document IDs in root-level collections, Auth users, Storage paths and saved queries. docs/global-search
  • AI assistant, MCP server and CLI: a bring-your-own-key AI assistant, an MCP server with 40 tools (paid plans) and, since 2.2, a scriptable fuego command-line tool. docs/ai-assistant docs/command-line
  • Multiple windows (from 2.0): open a collection, query or Storage bucket in its own native window with state kept in sync, and share fuego:// links (macOS and Windows). docs/windows-and-links

The same features in Firefoo

  • No built-in index management: when a query needs a composite index, Firefoo's docs say to create it from the Firebase Console link in the error. firefoo.com firefoo.com (2)
  • No Cloud Storage browser: Firefoo covers Firestore and Firebase Authentication, according to its Getting Started guide. firefoo.com

Where Fuego goes further

Pipelines and indexes, without leaving the app

Fuego added index management in 1.0, and pipelines and the Index Advisor in 2.0. Each card also says where Firefoo stands on the same task, with a link to the source.

From 2.0

Pipeline queries

Firestore Enterprise edition introduces Pipeline operations, a stage-based query interface that goes well beyond classic queries. Fuego ships a visual builder for it: compose where, select, addFields, aggregate, distinct, unnest, findNearest, union and more, chain server-side expressions, and run a pipeline even when no index matches it (Enterprise falls back to a table scan, and Explain flags it). Firefoo's last release (1.5.11, January 2023) came out three years before Pipeline operations entered Preview in January 2026. firefoo.com docs.cloud.google.com

Since 1.0 · Advisor from 2.0

Index management & Index Advisor

Fuego lists, filters, creates, edits and deletes composite, vector and Enterprise indexes, plus single-field exemptions and TTL policies, and compares or syncs them across databases and environments. The Index Advisor then analyses a query (classic or pipeline) and tells you which index it actually needs, optionally verifying the verdict with Firestore Query Explain. In Firefoo, a query that needs a composite index shows a Firebase Console link to create it. firefoo.com

Choosing

Which one fits your work?

Here is when each one is the better choice, followed by the limitations of Fuego we know about.

Choose Fuego if you…

Choose Firefoo if you…

Fuego's limitations

  • No SQL or free-form JavaScript query console: queries are visual or JSON, and JavaScript is only used for transform scripts. docs/query
  • Linux builds are x64 only and need WebKit2-GTK 4.1. Windows downloads are not yet code-signed, so expect SmartScreen warnings. download docs/fuego-app
  • Storage and dashboards/custom views are labelled beta. pricing
  • The AI assistant needs your own provider API key, and data goes to that provider unless you use a local Ollama model. docs/ai-assistant
  • Desktop only: there is no web version. download

Testimonials

What users say

"I switched from Firefoo to Fuego and haven't looked back. The app feels modern."
Simon R., Backend Developer
"Fuego's Point-in-Time Recovery saved a critical collection after a mistaken update—back online in minutes."
Marco L., CTO
"I used Firefoo for two years before switching to Fuego. We had to move because Firefoo doesn't support split databases the way Fuego does. Fuego is great, works well and gets better with every update."
Sydney K.
